1. It’s very important for you to be on time during the program. Every time someone comes in late, there will be a very annoying sound played, and that one will get all the attention. It’ll be quite an embarrassed experience. Hence, do whatever it takes to be on time. It’s a good habit to be on time anyway.

2. Due to the stretching nature of the program, you won’t have enough normal sleep for 3-4 days. However, you will definitely have enough sleep to be fully awake or even energized during the program. Is that strange? Let me explain. The number of hours sleeping doesn’t decided our state, but it’s the quality of sleep does. The fact that you feel good or not during the day depends a lot how deep you can sleep at night. During PoE, you will have an entire day (about 17 hours) of exciting learning, activities and sharing. Therefore, you will surely have a very deep sleep at night (because you feel good and temporarily totally forget about stress/worries). That’s why 4-5 hours sleep each night during the program can be equal to 6-7 hours normal sleep (or even more, again it depends on how deep is your sleep). By the way, one of my fellow attendants, he slept only 2 hours per day during the program because he didn’t want to skip his jogging routine. To my surprise, he was still so energised throughout the entire program. He even did some welfare work for us like collecting the name/contact of everyone and compiled them into one list. Amazing!

3. I agree with you… (Don’t be surprised, I know what you’re thinking now, so I agree first ;) ). Yes, we’re human and we’ll definitely feel sleepy sometime during the program. Here are a few way to keep yourself always awake.

  • The moment you start to feel a bit sleepy, don’t let it continue, change the way you sit immediately. Sit the way you sit when you focus and learn every well.

  • Lock your eyes on the trainer when he speaks to keep your attention.

  • Lock your ears on what the trainer says also to keep your brain awake.

  • Keep your brain work and process information continuously.

  • Keep a smile on your face. You can smile to the trainer all the time if you want to but don’t over-do it ;).

  • Take your coat off to let your body feel a bit cold. (We fall asleep when our body temperature goes down. By keeping yourself a bit cold, you keep your body temperature high so you won’t fall asleep).

  • Make full use of all the “energizing” sessions (You’ll understand what I meant when you attend the program).

By the way, if you don’t believe me, I’m very proud to say I went through the whole program without falling asleep though I slept 4 hours per night for 3 nights. I even managed to keep myself so energized most of the time (if not all the time) during the program. At the same time, I’m not superhuman or any kind of that sort. Like you, normally, I NEED to sleep 8 hours per day to work effectively. I need that before my PoE and after PoE as well, but not during the PoE. Trust me, we all have some kind of “reserved energy”. When you break your limit, you will be able to tap on that source of energy to do something you think you can never do. (By the way, don’t over use that energy, e.g. sleep 4 hours per day for 2 weeks. Like other energy, it also needs to be reserved and recharged).

4. Be sure that you SHARE. During the program, the trainers will ask for sharing from the audience frequently. They named the microphone as “the mike of opportunity”. If you really want to learn something very useful, you must share with ALL your fellow attendants. However, be sure:

  • To share only 2-3 times (One is too few, but more than 3 may be too many because we should give opportunities to the others as well).

  • To speak from your heart because you don’t have many chance to share. Thus, speak from your heart will bring the other closer to you. Don’t share what you think logically, share what you feel.

  • You must share (especially if you’re an introvert person). I’m also an introvert by nature, which means I’m not very good at approaching strangers and make friends with them. However, thanks for my sharing during the first day of the program, a lot of people approached me and talk to me because they felt like they “knew” me already.

  • Don’t wait until the last day or last minutes of the program to share. During the last few hours of my program, there were 25-30 people grasping the “mike of opportunity” to and there were many others who wanted to but couldn’t.

5. Bring along your business card. Exchange business cards and practice building rapport with ALL the fellow attendants. (I still regret I couldn’t talk to all last time though I talked to most of them). By the way, don’t give yourself excuse like “I’m not good at making friends”. The fact is I’m not (or I wasn’t) good at it either. However, because I wasn’t good enough, I chose to leave my comfort zone to practice and make myself better. After making friends with about 40-50 strangers during 4 days only, now I feel very different about my ability of making friends with a stranger.

6. Don’t work with your friends/relatives/spouse. If you attend the program with you someone you’ve known well. Never work with them in a team. The purpose of the program is to bring you out from your comfort zone, and from there you must extend your comfort zone to feel comfortable again. If you keep having those you feel very comfort with around, it’ll be very hard for you (and for them too) to leave the comfort zone. For example, if my wife had attended the program with me, I sure that I would have spent of most my time with her because no one told me about this. Fortunately, because she wasn’t around, I spent my time with as many strangers as I could and made them my friends. Now you know it, so you should do it. Actually, in the program, each game/experiment, you should work with a totally new team unless you’re asked to work with your own discussion group.

7. Be really open and honest. You come to the program to learn about yourself and to become a better person. Don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t. It won’t help you and waste your time/money. I believe leaving your logical thinking and scepticism at home will greatly help. When I attended the program, though I prepared to be very open, I still brought some scepticism with me. That’s why I couldn’t learn much from some parts of the program. After that, I must slowly learn them myself or through coach training.

8. Take 100% responsibility. You attend the program to learn not to be taught. Give in your 100%, 150% or 300% to learn as much as you can. I can tell no one will be able to teach you anything if you, yourself, don’t want to learn first. Therefore, if you really want to change your life, GRASP THIS CHANCE & DO IT YOURSELF using the trainers/coaches as your supporters/helpers and the materials taught as your tools.
