If you are a returning visitor, do you notice my blog is loaded faster now? It’s thanks to the excellent hosting service by DownTownHost. That’s why my first post at this new host is a review about the service itself.

A few days I go, my old host went down 3 times in the same day. Each time was 1-2 hours. It made me really frustrated because it wasn’t the first time. I chose that host because I needed .NET & MSSQL hosting. It is really the best .NET & MSSQL in term of value, but now I don’t need .NET & MSSQL any more. I need a really fast and reliable host for my growing sites. Thus, I decided to do an intensive and extensive search to find the best host for me (or at least a better host). By “best host”, I meant the hosting service that fits my requirement the best. We all know there is no “best host” for everyone.

After a few days of researching, I shorted list 3 hosting services and decided to give DownTownHost a try first. Why did I chose DownTownHost first? The reason is simple: It has many trust-able comments & reviews, good uptime, good speed, good customer care, and good results with Alertra Spotcheck. Its website and company history looks good as well.

Because I’m still very new to DownTownHost, instead of writing a formal “DownTownHost Review”, let me share with you my personal experiences with them.

The sign-up process was very fast for me. After paying the hosting fee, I got my account set up and ready almost immediately. I found that they had the latest Cpanel (an award-winning control panel for web hosting). The interface is quite cool too in my opinion.

Not bad for a start right? Then I set up a mirror of this blog on DownTownHost server and started to test it. To my surprise, it was really slow. I was somehow disappointed, but I still hoped that it was just temporary, so I submitted a support ticket to see how. To my surprise (again), they responded to my complaint within less than half an hour. From there, they actively tested and exchanged messages with me for about 36 hrs. We exchanged around 40 messages in total, but my total waiting time (the time between sending a message & receiving a reply) was only 12h42′ (or 38′ per message on average). Amazing customer support and amazing efforts right?

You may also note that the problem I complaint about was not an easy problem, especially when I was the only customer complaining about slowness. It was actually the most difficult problem to solve because it turned out… not to be their service problem. Please let me explain why. Thanks to their efforts, I eventually found out that it was me who caused the prolem because I forgot to change some configuration when setting the mirror on DownTownHost server. After I fixed it, the mirror became very fast (much faster than my old host). Here is the proof:

Do you think I need to pay a lots for such an excellent service from DownTownHost? Actually, I don’t need to. My account is just a normal account (the cheapeast Bronze plan indeed). They allow unlimited add-on domains so you can host as many websites as you wish. You can see I have 4 Add-on domains right? One of them is this kenny-tran.com

Finally, I can’t comment anything about DownTownHost uptime because my hosting plan has just started since 9 Jun 07. However, my research on WebHostingTalk forum showed that they have excellent uptime. Some even said they haven’t been down for a long time. Anyway, I’ll post more about DownTownHost uptime after I’ve been hosted with them for at least 6 months to a year.
