Today, I faced with a very difficult decision to make. In the university, I learnt that there was no right or wrong decision, there was only well-informed or unwell-informed decision. In life, I have learnt that most of the time, we don’t have the luxury of good and correct information to make a so-called well-informed decision. Even if we have a lot of information, things that are right today may be so wrong in the future. Thus, we only have two choices between a determined decision and a half-hearted decision.
It’s easy to say that one should make a determined decision, but it’s extremely difficult to do so. A determined decision usually drags us out of our comfort zone to make it become the right decision. In some cases, it even goes against the conventional wisdom. Especially when things go wrong with it, we will be the only one getting all the blames such as “You did it to yourself”, “You’re stupid to do that. Why don’t you follow the others?”, etc. In contrast, a half-hearted decision keeps us well in our comfort zone to make it look like a right decision, and when things go wrong we have the whole world, even God to blame: “Life is like that you know”, “My boss and colleagues are stupid”, “God didn’t bless me”, “Everyone told me to do that”, etc. Yes, it can be anyone’s fault but not our fault to make the wrong decision from the beginning because that decision follow conventional wisdom. And because it follows conventional wisdom, it is the right one. In the end, most of the time, most of us will settle with a half-hearted-but-look-like-determined decision because no one wants to accept the fact that we choose an easy, half-hearted decision, and we just don’t have the courage to do what our heart really wants to do…
