Your Adsense is earning quite well now. But you want to improve it? Well, it’s time to consider Adsense position.

First, you should know that there is not any universal position that is guaranteed to increase your Adsense earnings. You need try as many setups as you can to find the best position with the greatest benefit.

Of course, certain places often work better than others. Obviously, Google realizes this and they publish a “heat map” of how much income ads placed in certain portions of the page can bring you. Experimenting is usually the best way to find out.

In general, the most profitable ads are placed within the main content, basically right above it. But this is not necessarily a rule and there are always exceptions to it.

For example, if you have a news site or something similar, you will often find that you earn more money by placing your ads at the bottom of the content, right before the comment box. This is easily to understand because after users finish reading a post, they have a short moment where they’re looking for something else to do. And “bang”, here it is, your AdSense ad.

In addition, placing ads to the left side of your page might work better most of the time. This is logical because text is generally written and read from left to right (unless you come from some countries where it works the other way around). Readers will finish a sentence and return their eyes to the left position, which means your ads have a higher chance of being spotted.

Besides, there’s more than just having ads visually in the right place. If you have more than one ad, you need to take care where they’re located in the code as well. Why?

Well, AdSense fills the ads in the order it finds them in the source. It means that if the first ad you have in the code isn’t the one generating the most revenue, you may soon begin to lose money, instead of earning more. And if AdSense doesn’t have anymore ads, it will supplement your space with public service ads or just leave it blank. That’s bad because if you’re unlucky, you could end up with your best locations not having any good ads at all.

You may also concern about how many ads you should place in your site. The problem is that if you have too many, rather than generate more income, you’ll have a lower click through rate, as visitors tend not to follow ads from the places where these come in excess.

You have to constantly monitor how the users interact with your site. Check out where the visitors will be looking at your site most. This is generally the place to put your first Adsense ads. At the same time, try not to place ads in disturbing positions as that can guarantee a lower click through rate.

Of course, you always need to have ads that blend in with your content and generally don’t make the visitor feel unpleasant when browsing your site. Yes, the key is providing an enjoyable experience for your visitor, whilst generating revenues from their exploration.

And again, ultimately the best revenue will be earned through a lot of experimentation. Be sure to use AdSense’s channels feature and be on the look out for how certain ads in your pages are doing whilst altering the positions to better supplement your earnings.
