Have this occurred to you before? You said to a group of friends the same story but each of them elaborated the story in a different way. Each person seemed to get a different message. This interesting thing often happens in communication, isn’t it? They listen differently because they all have different keys to their hearts. Find the keys and you will connect to their heart level.

  • Accept the fact that people are different: The more people you meet, the more you realize that people are different. Accept this fact. You will see how different it makes when different people work together.

  • Find the keys to their hearts by asking questions: It’s so basic and fundamental. But it’s true. Good questions such as “What are your values?”, “What do you cry about?”, “What are your dreams?”… are essential to discover the keys to a person’s heart.

  • Establish common ground: “Communications” comes from the word “common”. People connect with each other in common things. Asking questions and listening will help you to discover the common grounds and from there, communication grows.

  • Realize that with time, people change: Finding the keys to people’s heart one time doesn’t mean you have found them forever. People change over time, including you. The keys in the present may not be the keys in the future. Therefore, you should:

    • Stay to continual conversation with others: Stay connected to their hearts. If you receive different responses for the same question, you know that they are changing and you are on your way to find a new “them”.

    • Look for the “change indicators” of a person’s life: People are most likely to change when: they hurt/learn/receive enough that they have to/want to/are able to change. Keep this in mind and you may be able to forecast the change even before it happens.

Once you have found the keys to people’s hearts, act with integrity because you are trusted now. ”Turn” the key only when you can add value to that person.

Practice

  •  Accept that people are not like you and find out what makes them different.

  • Forecast the changes in people’s hearts by looking for “change indicators”.

  • Remember, understanding people’s hearts is an element for success.
