I must say my last 40 days with DownTownHost was really a pleasant test drive.

The server was fast (extremely fast), connection speed is excellent (even I’m in Singapore and they’re in the US). There customer support was even faster. Only yesterday, when I encounter a small problem after installing OSCommerce because I didn’t know how to configurate my .htaccess file properly, I sent an email for support. To my pleasant surprise, DownTownHost replied within 2-3 minutes. Although the problem DownTownHost helped me to solve was very simple one, it was their service attitude that impressed me a lot.

One more thing to note is my 30-day trial period has over last last week. It means that I couldn’t get my money back anymore. However, their level of service has been the same (as excellent as it has been). It boosted my confidence a lot, and I decided to move all my website from my old host (which is WebHost4Life) to DownTownHost.

About uptime, by using a service to monitor my website every 10 mins, I know I got a downtime of about 1 hour during last 40 days, which made DownTownHost’s uptime (for the particular server I’m on) is about 99.89%. Though it was still a little bit to meet what they claimed (99.90%), it was acceptable for me because I didn’t demand much for US$7.95 per month. Generally, for that price, uptime above 99.8% is ok for me. Many other hosting companies out there claiming that their uptime is 99.99%, but guess what, they aren’t even close to 99.5%

I’ll continue to update my experiences with DownTownHost here in the next few months.

By the way, one of the reason I left WebHost4Life was their downtime. I experience so much downtime last month (especially for the email service). My customer was really frustrated, I was even more frustrated. Thus, I decided it’s the end of my hosting with WebHost4Life.

To be fair, WebHost4Life isn’t bad hosting service. What they offer is acceptable for the price. Actually, their offer is really attractive for those who needs Windows hosting, .NET & MSSQL for testing or just for fun. However, they aren’t for business. Thus, I won’t recommend them unless you need .NET & MSSQL for an affordable price.

Secrets Of Self-Made Millionaires is an old book. Actually, not that old, it was first published in 2006 (more than one year ago only). I must say it’s a very good book to read. If any of my friends ask me which books to read about wealth creation, there is no doubt that Secrets Of Self-Made Millionaires will be on top of the list. (Talking about on top, Secrets Of Self-Made Millionaires was one of the best-selling books in Singapore and Adam Khoo is one of the top selling authors in Singapore as well).

So, what is good about this Secrets Of Self-Made Millionaires book?

First of all, it isn’t a get-rich-quick book, but it’s a solid book on how to become wealthy steadily. If you can follow everything written in the book, there is no doubt that you will become really rich (but it won’t come tomorrow, next week, or next month).

Secondly, there is nothing new in the book. It’s a strange way to recommend a book by saying “there is nothing new in the book”, right? However, it’s actually what makes it outstanding. The book is a collective of wisdom from many other wealth creation books. Adam took the best, combined them together and threw in the strategies to execute. There you have a book. What I meant is when you read this book, it’s like you read so many books at the same time and pick what really works from each book. It’s what I really like about Secrets Of Self-Made Millionaires book.

Finally, many wealth creation books just tell you this and that but never tell you EXACTLY how to become wealthy and what the steps are. It’s the area which I found Adam’s book outstanding. There are a lot of strategies for you to follow in the books (ranging from idiot-proof strategy to invest in ETF to advanced strategies.
