To win with people, you need to pass credits on to others. It’s the simplest and easiest way to make people feel like a million buck. You will feel good too, when you share the success and uplift people.

  • Check your ego at the door: People normally don’t pass along credits to others because of their egos (they feel hurt or less value when they do that). “An egotist is not a person who thinks too much of himself; it’s someone who thinks too little of other people.” Therefore, to practice this method of winning with people, you have to set your ego aside and focus on others. Think about what people need, how to give them credit and enhance their performance, how they feel, what they deserve,…
  • Don’t wait - pass the credit ASAP: “Reward employees while the sweats’ still on their brow”. That’s right. Giving credits to others right now, right here when things they have done are still fresh in their minds. The sooner you pass credits on to people, the bigger the payoff. Just a nod or wink when your friends pass the ball to you would be good enough on the field. It’s the best time. Do not wait!
  • Say it in front of others: Again, same as compliments, passing credits on to people in front of others esp. those they respect or love will increase its value tremendously. You would feel very good when the whole team gathers around you and pats you on the back, wouldn’t you?
  • Put it in print: Giving credits to people verbally can only uplift them for a moment. Putting their credits in print will probably uplift them for a lifetime (personal notes, certificates, plaques, trophies, etc.) What takes you just a few minutes to write will inspire and encourage people for their whole lives. Everyone desires to make a difference and they need encouragement to keep doing that.
  • Only say it if you mean it: It seems obvious, doesn’t it? If you are not sincere when you pass credits on to others, you will make things worse. Remember, do it from your heart.

Practice

  • Forget about your ego and focus on others.
  • Think about who has contributed to your success. What credits they deserve?
  • Do not wait. Pass credits on to people publicly and sincerely.
  • Remember, everyone desire to be praised.
