It’s so difficult to mine the gold of someone’s good intentions esp. when you are hurt, isn’t it? And to be honest, sometimes people take advantage of you if you keep mining the gold of their good intentions.
At the same time, when you are suspicious of others, you tend to display wrong behavior toward them and of course, you will receive the same. You will get what you expect from others. So, let’s expect the best, and you will receive the best.
- Believe the best about people: It all starts with your attitude. If you don’t believe that people desire to be good deep down in their hearts, you will never believe in their intentions.
- See things from their perspective: The issue of perspective really has to do with maturity. The more mature we become, the easier we can see things from another’s point of view. And that is where you can find the gold of good intentions.
- Give people the benefit of the doubt: Do you realize that sometimes, your actions turn wrong although your intentions are good? In those cases, do you wish others to give you the benefit of the doubt? If yes, give others the same things you want. “What great relationships we would have if everybody was appreciated for what they intended to do - in spite of what they may have done“.
- Remember their good days, not their bad ones: Everyone has good and bad days. Remember their good days and forgive their bad ones. If you judge people, they will judge you back. If you mine the gold of good intentions in people, they will more likely to do the same for you.
Practice
- Forget about justice, focus on forgiveness.
- Put yourself in the others’ shoes to feel like what they feel.
- Appreciate people’s intentions, not only their actions.
- Remember, believe in people. It will help you to mine the gold contained in them.
